Winter Way

In winter times, pilgrims on their way to Santiago sometimes tried to avoid the snows of O Cebreiro entering Galicia though the basin of the Sil river, going across the Miño river, on the south of the French Way. This alternative pilgrimage route has received the name of 'Winter Way' and crosses the Miño river in a place very close to the current location of the Belesar Dam. The fall and rise over the so-called Belesar Elbows, remains of an old Roman road along the banks of the Miño river, is one of the most challenging sections for pilgrims, but, at the same time, it is also the most beautiful one
